Do you ever get that itch? The itch to wager, to head to the nearest betting house, to find a good stakes casino game of Hold em, to sit at a Chemin de fer table for hours on end. I really like that itch. And I like to scratch it.

I also love to watch men and women bet. No 2 poker faces seem identical. When I gamble I like to believe I put on a poker face which is impassable. But I know I have specific gestures. For 1, the only time I smoke is when I wager on poker or Twenty-one. And then I chain smoke. But I smoke no matter whether I am winning or losing, no matter if I have a beneficial hand or bad.

I once wagered in a very weekly poker game. The game was always 5 card draw. There was a gentleman who bet with us each week who always wore a hat. When he was given a very good hand, unconsciously, he would start touching and wagering with his hat. Pointless to say, he never won.

The greatest poker gambler I ever saw was a gentleman who manufactured a lot more actions and signals at a poker table than anybody I had ever met. He was impressive in the way he dressed. Constantly an pricey suit and tie, boots shined and nails manicured. He was diligent in this manner. And he was always brushing his pant leg or rubbings his hands or putting his chips in tidy little piles.

I use to analyze him for hours. I would tried to see if I could notice his tell. Selecting lint off his jacket- did this imply he was bluffing? Arranging his chips in a short pile – did this imply he had a good hand?

Several years later I bumped into him in a bar in New York and we had a drink. I asked him if he had been aware of all those movements he produced or if they have been subconscious. He told me that every single individual thing he did at a poker table was deliberate. He said that everybody is always checking out everyone else’s poker face. They’re attempting to spot the the tell.

So his program was to provide them lots to believe about. His thinking was if they were pondering about him picking a piece of lint off his jacket and what it meant they sure were not pondering about their cards.

His system was distraction. And it worked for him. Never give up a technique that works for you.
