Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to make it to the final game in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest bettors anywhere in the world. While competing in net poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. He often participates in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Gus usually buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all in. I know Hansen is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is penniless, he has little or no reason to settle at the table with the min buy in.

Playing for the minimum takes a majority of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the full dollar value. I think tv can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The best poker players anywhere in the world might be players you have will not have heard of. Gus can be found participating in internet poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in high stakes omaha hi-low and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his talents in money rounds?
