Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to achieve final table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a huge pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest enthusiasts in the world. While playing online poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He often participates in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a good hand and then pushes all in. I accept that Hansen is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is broke, he has absolutely no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy-in.
Playing for the minimum takes a majority of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be one of the best players in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amount. I believe television can alter our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest players anywhere in the world could be guys you have never heard of before. Gus can be found betting on internet poker on Full Tilt. He commonly participates in big stakes Omaha and texas holdem. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his talents in money rounds?
