Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender on the globe by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover every little thing he possibly could about poker. He would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative comments from others annihilate his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

Phil began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every day and is very humble about his success. He knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
