Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to make it to the last poker table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest bettors anywhere in the world. While competing in internet poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He regularly participates in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus more often than not buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I know Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is flat broke, he has little or no reason to sit at the game with the min buy-in.

Buying in for the min takes a majority of the ability out of deep stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full amount. I believe tv can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The greatest players anywhere in the world might be guys you have will not have heard of. Gus can be seen gambling on web poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in big stakes Omaha and hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his talents in money rounds?
