Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to achieve final poker table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a large pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best players around the world. While competing in net poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus frequently participates in the 200/400 NL max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then goes all in. I know Gus is an amazing poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the game with the min buy-in.
Playing for the minimum takes most of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the greatest poker players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full dollar value. I believe television can skew our perception of the real world sometimes. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world may be players you have will not have heard about. Gus can be seen competing in internet poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in big stakes omaha/8 and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in cash games?
