Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to make it to the final table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He won a big pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest enthusiasts in the world. While participating in web poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. Gus often plays in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Gus generally buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I accept that Hansen is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is penniless, he has little or no reason to sit at the table with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the minimum takes most of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be one of the greatest poker players in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amount. I believe tv can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world could be players you have will not have heard of before. Gus can be found wagering on net poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in high stakes omaha high and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his abilities in cash rounds?
