Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to achieve closing game in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest bettors in the world. While wagering on net poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. He frequently participates in the 200/400 NL max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then pushes all in. I believe Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy-in.
Buying in for the minimum takes a majority of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is presumed to be 1 of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the total dollar value. I believe television can skew our view of the real world at times. The best players in the world may be players you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be seen playing net poker on Full Tilt. He commonly competes in big stakes omaha eight-or-better and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his talents in money games?
