Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player on the globe by most of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover everything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative comments from others kill his ambition of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning period and winning was not a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every day and is very humble about his achievements. He admits to making blunders every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
