Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 in which he liked betting on numerous card games at a young age. He found himself becoming very competitive in the above-mentioned card games as he was playing his dad. After graduating from high school, Howard made a decision to place higher education on hold for a little while and relocated to New York City to play some serious chess. While playing chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s first two years were rough as he played many hours and don’t win a majority of the time. He earned some additional money by becoming an assistant for the poker players. He believed he could improve his game by analyzing his life away from poker. He brought about an attempt to acquire more rest and focus more on poker.

The definite improvement in his game began when he began playing at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the greatest gamblers would frequently play against one another. He was able to access some of the greatest minds in chess. With their assistance, Howard would hone his strategic thinking abilities. He applied these strategy concepts to the game of No-Limit holdem.

Howard Lederer also helped his sibling Annie Duke learn the game of poker. She was an excellent student of the game as she would consistently be asking questions about the right way to make the correct choice. Howard told Annie to head out to Sin City and play in the World Series of Poker tournaments. She is one of the best female players the poker world ever. Howard relocated to Las Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and competed in cash games for the next 10 years. When the WPT grew in popularity, Howard made the decision to play more tournaments.
