Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player in the world by most of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover everything he possibly could about the game. He would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental comments from others annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
He began playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is very humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and always strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
