Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to make it to the closing poker table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a large pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best gamblers anywhere in the world. While wagering on online poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. He often plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus frequently buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I accept that Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is broke, he has absolutely no reason to play at the game with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes almost all of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is supposed to be 1 of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total dollar value. I think television can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The best players anywhere in the world may be guys you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be found gambling on online poker on Full Tilt. He usually participates in big stakes omaha/8 and Holdem. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his skills in money rounds?
