Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the planet by many of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the adverse feedback from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.
Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his success. He knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
